Mark is to
donate 10 books to Swadlincote library as well as meet local
youngsters to talk about reading and being an MP.
Mark was given the books by the Reading Agency to promote the
Summer Reading Challenge which encourages children across the
country to read six books during the summer through their
local library.
He will also
congratulate staff on the success of the challenge
in South Derbyshire's libraries this year,
particularly at Swadlincote where 51 per cent of the 282
people who started the scheme read all the books compared to 30 per
cent the year before. For the full list of figures, see
below.
Mark will read to a group of year four children from Belmont
Primary School as well as talk about his favourite books and
about life as an MP.
Mark said:"Reading was important to me as a child and I loved
reading to and with my son when he was younger. My own favourites
were adventure books. But my favourite reading book for young
children is Where the Wild Things are, by Maurice Sendak - a great
story with some lovely pictures."
Councillor Joyce Saunders, chair of Derbyshire County Council,
will also attend the event on Monday September 22 from
2pm..
