I became Member of Parliament for South Derbyshire on May 1, 1997 and stood down when Parliament was dissolved on April 12, 2010. In that time I was contacted by more than 15,000 households (around one in four of those in the area). This website provides information on my work, both in and on behalf of the constituency.

Pupils to design Christmas cards

Schoolchildren will design the Christmas cards sent by Mark to his constituents this year.

The competition has been organised and sponsored by garden centre Planters at Bretby who has asked 20 local primary schools to submit designs.

The winning design will be made into cards that will be sent out by Mark to 500 of his constituents. A further 500 will be available for sale at the garden centre in Bretby Lane and at the schools. All profits will go to help fund Macmillan Nurses.

Planters has sent letters to the schools who have been asked to submit the designs by November 8. The entries will be on display at the garden centre over the weekend (November 10 and 11). Mark will judge the entries on November 12.

The winning school will also receive £100 in Planters vouchers, second place will win £50 in vouchers and third place gets £25 in vouchers.

The schools that have been asked to take part in the competition are: St George’s Primary and Church Gresley Infants in Church Gresley; Linton Primary; Fairmeadows Primary and Newhall Junior in Newhall; Pennine Way Junior, Eureka Primary, Belmont Primary and Springfield Junior in Swadlincote; Mickleover Primary School; Bend Oak Junior, Tower View Primary, Holy Trinity Primary, Anglesey Primary and Castle Park County in Burton; Newton Solney School; Repton Primary; Willington Primary; William Shrewsbury in Stretton plus Woodville Junior School.
